Artist statement
As an artist, if I can be called an artist, I take my work very seriously. Allowing my emotional state to take hold of what I’m producing and shine through for the audience to read and interpret.
I don’t know what the future holds for me, but thus far I’ve allowed the chips to fall where they may, and it’s brought me so far. I know what I’m good at and where I need to improve. I feel having a strong grasp on knowing myself is very important as an artist but at the same time makes me wonder what else I could be. Currently I’m debating my placement in the enrollment of a major to study next year. Sculpture is my forte and would love to continue studying that medium but it holds little as a solid job, while Industrial design is a path involving 3D and has financial benefits. If I had my way, I’d follow sculpture, receive my degree, and move out to California to sculpt and create movie effects for motion pictures. I’ve always had an affinity for cinema particular ones that incorporate extensive special effects, like Lord of the Rings, Jurassic park, terminator, pan’s labyrinth, Bram Stokers Dracula, Hell Boy 1 and 2.
I want my audience to feel like they could reach out and interact with my work, which is why movies appeal to me so greatly. Charlie Chaplin, arguably the best, most influential person ever to grace to silver screen once said, “I had no idea of the character. But the moment I was dressed, the clothes and the make-up made me feel the person he was. I began to know him, and by the time I walked onto the stage he was fully born.” I want my audience to feel that with any work I create.
